How do I place a canal piece, I click the canal piece and select a rotation, but I cannot actually place it on my player board, tried in Chrome and Firefox.

Ive played the physical game several times, but there are no instructions on how to use the interface, seems completely broken and non-functional right now. main thing is I can't select tiles for ships.
